Two of the seven seats on the Hays Consolidated Independent School District school board were up for by-district general election on May 7, 2016. District 4 incumbent Merideth Keller faced challenger Joanna Mikulenka. District 5 incumbent Marty Kanetzky did not file for re-election. Esperanza Orosco faced Priscilla Harrell for the seat. There was no primary.[1] Keller defeated Mikulenka to win the District 4 seat and Orosco defeated Harrell in the race for District 5.[2]

Voter and candidate information
The Hays Consolidated ISD Board of Trustees is composed of seven members who are elected to three-year terms. Two members are elected at large and five members are elected by district. The seats in Districts 4 and 5 were scheduled for general election on May 7, 2016. There was no primary election.[3]
Candidates running for the school board had to be a United States citizen, a resident of Texas for at least 12 months, and a resident of the district for at least six months. Candidates also had to be 18 years of age or older and registered to vote.[3]
