Head of Wisconsin Judicial Commission John Dawson denied reappointment
May 18, 2012
Wisconsin: Attorney John R. Dawson will not be head of the Wisconsin Judicial Commission any longer. The Wisconsin Supreme Court has decided to decline Dawson's reappointment. In a letter last week to Dawson, Chief Justice Shirley Abrahamson said,
- “We regret to inform you that the Supreme Court, over our objections, has voted not to reappoint you to a second full term on the Wisconsin Judicial Commission, which you currently chair.”[1]
Mr. Dawson said he had no idea why the court would not reappoint him.
- “I am not privy to the thinking of justices on the court. That’s not my province. I’m sure they had sound reasons.”[1] - John R. Dawson
This follows an incident last June when unnamed sources alleged that a physical altercation occurred between Supreme court Justices David Prosser and Ann Walsh Bradley on June 13, 2011. Later on March 12, 2012, the Judicial Commission, headed by Dawson, found that Prosser violated the Code of Judicial Conduct and recommended that Prosser be disciplined accordingly for his actions.[2]
