The Health & Welfare Committee is a standing committee of the Louisiana State Senate.

Per the Senate Rules, committees of the Louisiana State Senate are assigned by the President of the Senate.[1] It is unclear when committees are assigned. A majority of appointed members make up a committee's quorum.[2] The President, President Pro Tempore and Parliamentarian serve as ex officio members of every committee.[3]

“ Legislative instruments and other matter referred to this committee shall encompass the following subject matter:
  • Alcoholic rehabilitation
  • Child care facilities
  • Elderly affairs
  • Facilities for Children with Physical Disabilities
  • Health and Welfare generally
  • Health offices and their administration
  • Hospitals, public or private
  • Mental health, Institutions and Facilities
  • Institutions and Services for Persons with Intellectual Disabilities
  • Nurses' training programs
  • Nursing homes
  • Public welfare, including private and local institutions
  • Public welfare research, training and rehabilitation
  • Veterans affairs
  • Vocational rehabilitation[4][5]
