Health and Welfare Committee, Tennessee State Senate
The Health and Welfare Committee is a standing committee of the Tennessee State Senate.
Per Section 73 of the Senate Rules, all standing, special, and select committees of the Tennessee State Senate are appointed by the speaker of the Senate.[1] In each standing committee, the speaker of the Senate appoints one chairperson, one 1st vice-chairperson, and one 2nd vice-chairperson. The speaker may also appoint a chairperson emeritus at his or her discretion.[2] The speaker considers the abilities, preferences, and seniority of members as well as the political party representation in the Senate when appointing committees and committee officers.[1] The appointed chairperson of each standing committee is responsible for attendance roll call and reporting to the speaker of the Senate if a member is absent from three consecutive regularly scheduled meetings without being excused by the chairperson.[3]
