Heather Bouchey
Heather Bouchey was the acting Vermont Secretary of Education. Bouchey assumed office on April 10, 2023. Bouchey left office on April 15, 2024.
Governor Phil Scott (R) appointed Bouchey as interim Vermont Secretary of Education in April 2023 to replace Dan French. [1] She moved to a deputy secretary role upon the nomination of Zoie Saunders.[2]
Biography
Prior to her appointment as interim secretary, Bouchey worked as the deputy secretary of education. She previously worked as a professor and with students in rural areas of Vermont. She founded the Patrick and Marcelle Leahy Center for Rural Students at Lyndon State College.[3]

Interim Vermont Secretary of Education (2018, 2023 - 2024)
In April 2018, Bouchey was named interim Vermont secretary of education following the resignation of former officeholder Rebecca Holcombe.[4] She served until the appointment of Dan French.[5]. Bouchey was named interim Vermont secretary of education again following French's resignation in April 2023. [6] She moved to a deputy secretary role upon the nomination of Zoie Saunders.[7]
