The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was July 10, 2014. Incumbent Fred Thiele was unopposed in the Democratic primary, while Heather Collins was unopposed in the Republican primary. Brian DeSesa ran on the Conservative Party ticket. Thiele also ran on the Working Families Party and Independence Party of New York State tickets. Thiele defeated Collins and DeSesa in the general election.[5][6][7]
