I have served on the Central Arizona Water Conservation District Board, representing Maricopa County, since Dec. 2012. I have spent the last 12 years fighting to protect our water and the Colorado river. I have led the way on clean energy initiatives, increased transparency, and kept our focus on conservation, and I have no intention of stopping. Now, more than ever, we need dynamic and experienced leadership that balances our need for growth with the health of our natural environment.
  • We need to come up with new solutions to manage the declining flows of the Colorado River while meeting obligations to our stakeholders and preserving our natural resources.
  • We need a renewed focus on groundwater management so that we do not counter the hard work we have done protecting the Colorado River.
  • We need to keep everyone engaged on these issues that are critical to Arizona's future.
Water conservation, climate change, transparency
This office requires a working knowledge of the law of the river as well as Arizona's water policy. We have to be experts on Colorado River management and work directly with other state and tribal governments, and the federal government, to make smart decisions that impact millions.
I am a lawyer and work on policy issues frequently. I am also a good listener and open to new ideas.
We have to be stewards of the Central Arizona Project's allotment of Colorado River water so as to meet the needs of stakeholders. This should be balanced with the needs of the Colorado River environment. We need to make sure that people understand where our water comes from and how it is used. We need to find and implement new innovations to make the most with this precious resource.
I want to leave my corner of the world better than I found it.
I was Princess Belle at Walt Disney World in Orlando, FL.
I struggle with my fear of failure. I strive to be the best and can by my own worst critic.
We also play a role in groundwater replenishment. We use some of our water to serve communities outside the canal path. This creates additional pressures and obligations.
Yes, but previous experience is not required. That said, it is extremely helpful.
Arizona List, Mayor Kate Gallego, Maricopa Area Labor Federation
Transparency and accountability are key. This is why I have worked hard to make meetings more accessible and to speak to the public about what we do on a regular basis. As the saying goes, "sunshine is the best disinfectant."
