  • A real Green New Deal to address the catastrophic impacts of climate change. This is a massive undertaking that needs to happen immediately. We can't negotiate with the rising seas and need bold direct targeted action.
  • Free K-college education for residents of New Jersey. It is unfair to saddle young people with tens of thousands of dollars of debt at the start of their lives. We will focus on a program of funding that is fair and not based on where you live.
  • Grassroots Democracy - implementing a ranked choice voting system, ending the ballot line, lowering voting age, and getting big money out of politics.

Social Justice
The Lieutenant Governor position is a really interesting position in the NJ Government, especially since it's a fairly new position. Outside of the obvious role of being next in line of succession, most of the powers and roles aren't really spelled out. This gives the Lt. Gov a lot of freedom to wear many different hats. You can oversee special projects, champion causes, and really get to spend much more hands on time speaking with the community you serve.
"Why Socialism" by Albert Einstein would be a great starting place. Followed by the greats like Kropotkin and Luxembourg, and Angela Davis.
I hope my legacy would be one of social justice and equality. These are ideals I am deeply committed to and would use every opportunity this office provides me to meet those ideals. We are all one, but far to often people are not treated fairly or with equity. Long standing social conditions have separated us from each other. It is only as one that we can rise beyond past atrocities and hardships. We must repair the damage of the past or we will never move into a bright future.
The first historical event I vividly remember was the Space Shuttle Challenger explosion when I was 9 years old. I had just turned 9 about a week before then. I remember watching it live on TV and being so sad. I could barely process that I had just watched 7 people die on live television. As a kind of geeky kid, I was fascinated with astronauts and all things space. In addition this had been extremely publicized in schools since there was a school teacher on board the shuttle. So, I think most kids were hit pretty hard by it.

I learned a lot of lessons from that day that I didn't realize until years later. First is how fleeting everything is. Life can be both beautiful and horrible and it can change in an instant and with no warning. I think my deep empathy for the suffering of others was cemented that day. Anything can happen and we need a strong network of support and social safety nets. We need to take care of each other, because what you have today can be gone tomorrow. We are all in this together. It takes all of us working together in a society to share in marvel of launching people into space, but it also takes a society to stand by each other in the dark times as well.
"You're On Fire" by They Might be Giants (I did previously mention I am a geek)
This is a great example of when having previous experience doesn't really serve to benefit the candidate. This is a position where you can really spend a lot of time as a liaison between government and the public. This office holder would most benefit from being a part of grassroots organization. To serve the people you have to be a part of the people. If someone spends too much time holding an elected office, they can forget who it is they are really serving.
Being a community organizer is one of the primary skills the person who holds this position . Listening to what people need and being able to synthesize that into real demands is a skill that takes a while to cultivate, and it nots one you can easily learn from a book. The best place to learn it is in the streets with other activists and members of the community.
