Hector Gastelum was a member of the Otay Water District Governing Board in California, representing Division 4. Gastelum left office in 2020.
Gastelum ran for election to the Otay Water District Governing Board to represent Division 3 in California. Gastelum lost in the general election on November 8, 2022.
Gastelum was a candidate for the Trustee Area 1 seat on the Chula Vista Elementary School District Board of Education in California. He ran against Barbara Majchrzak, George Cameron and Francisco Tamayo in the general election on November 4, 2014.[1] Hector Gastelum lost the general election on November 4, 2014.
Gastelum was a 2014 nonpartisan candidate for the city council of Chula Vista, California. He was defeated by Patricia Aguilar and Dan Smith. Gastelum also ran unsuccessfully for District 40 of the California State Senate in a 2013 special election.[2]

Chula Vista Elementary Board of Education election

No incumbents filed to run for re-election, leaving all three seats open to newcomers. Four candidates, Barbara Majchrzak, Francisco Tamayo, George Cameron and Hector Gastelum,
ran for the Trustee Area 1 seat. The Trustee Area 3 election featured candidates Leslie Ray Bunker and Rudy Ramirez, and candidates Willard "Doc" Howard, Eduardo Reyes and Joshua R. Smith ran for the Trustee Area 5 seat.
In Trustee Area 1, Tamayo defeated his three fellow candidates to win the election. Bunker won the Trustee Area 3 seat, and Reyes was elected to Trustee Area 5.

Chula Vista City Council election
The city of Chula Vista, California held city council elections on June 3, 2014. Incumbent Patricia Aguilar faced Hector Gastelum, David Gonzalez, Jr., Willie Harris, Dan Smith and Michael Spethman in the general election. Because no candidate received more than 50 percent of the vote, the top two vote-getters - Aguilar and Smith - met in a runoff election on November 4, 2014. Aguilar defeated Smith in the runoff.[5][6][7][8]

2013
Gastelum ran in a special election for California State Senate District 40. The seat was vacant following Juan Vargas's (D) election to the 51st Congressional District of California on November 6, 2012. Gastelum was defeated by Ben Hueso (D) in the special election on March 12, 2013.[2][9][10][11]
