Hector Rivera (Nevada)
Hector Rivera was a candidate for Ward 1 representative on the North Las Vegas City Council in Nevada. He was defeated in the primary election on April 4, 2017. Although city council elections in North Las Vegas are officially nonpartisan, Rivera was listed by the Clark County Democrats as a Democratic candidate in 2017.[1]
Rivera was a 2010 candidate for the Sweetwater Union High School District board and a 2014 candidate for the Kern Community College District board.[2]
Biography
Rivera earned a bachelor's degree in sociology from the University of California, Riverside.[2]
Rivera has worked for the Democratic political action committee For Our Future and as a political organizer with U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders' 2016 presidential campaign.[2]
Elections
2017
The city of North Las Vegas, Nevada, held a primary election for mayor and city council on April 4, 2017. A general election was scheduled for June 13, 2017. The filing deadline for candidates who wished to run in this election was February 3, 2017.
The mayor's seat and the Ward 1 and Ward 3 seats on the city council were up for election in the primary. The Ward 3 race advanced to the general election. Incumbent Isaac E. Barron defeated Hector Rivera in the primary election for the Ward 1 seat on the North Las Vegas City Council.[3]

Work with employers to bring full-time, well paying jobs to North Las Vegas. I will support a downtown area with a centralized plaza that will be environmentally friendly and bring small businesses to a safe area where families can go for walks and enjoy our great southern Nevada nights. PUBLIC SAFETY Street lights in our city need to be brighter and more effective. Using modern technology I will coordinate an effort to make North Las Vegas brighter and safer once the sun goes down. I will work with local law enforcement to make our communities safer. HEALTHCARE As a city we can facilitate federal program access to the people of North Las Vegas. Provide city clinics for the residents of North Las Vegas that are accessible and affordable. EDUCATION Advocate to ensure funding for ELL (English Language Learners) programs in all of North Las Vegas. Funding for after school programs.
