My name is Heidi Beidinger. I’m the daughter of immigrant parents who lived in Europe during WWII. They taught me about family values and the importance of education. I’m a mom, an educator, a wife and a community leader. In 2022, I ran for State Representative for Mishawaka, Granger, and Osceola because I wanted a better future for my children. I have continued to watch extreme republicans in our state disrespect teachers, destroy our environment and take away our individual freedoms. This is why I am running again.

Heidi and her husband have lived, worked, and raised their three children in Granger for the past twenty years. Beidinger is a professor of public health at Notre Dame and previously served as the President of St. Joseph County’s Board of Health. Her children attended Penn Harris Madison (PHM) schools for K-12 and received an excellent education.

Heidi worked at PHM for five years where she helped to launch the Academies at Penn High School. After 5 years, the graduation rate increased from 74% to 96%!!

“Our public schools in this district are an awesome example of what happens when we come together to fund a bright future for our kids. I believe that when we all get the support we need, we all do better!”

Heidi has worked her whole life to make our families happier and healthier: from protecting our kids from lead poisoning, supporting our mothers to have healthy babies, and helping our high school students to graduate.

  • Hoosiers deserve the freedom to access quality, affordable health care.
  • Hoosiers deserve the freedom to be educated.
  • Hoosiers deserve the freedom to: make choices about their bodies, chose who they love, practice their religion and to be who they want to be.
Education, public health, children and families, environment
Integrity is the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles. Decision-making along with the ability to negotiate are essential to successfully craft and pass legislation that will bring about positive impact for Hoosiers. Communication and effective listening are essential to building relationships with all members of the Indiana Legislature. Leadership is essential to building a vision and effective relationships to achieve long-term betterment for all Hoosiers.
To listen to the needs of the people in the district. What issues are they most concerned about? What would they like to see improved? It's the elected official's job to bring those concerns and issues to the state house to seek solutions.
I tend to read more non-fiction than fiction. My fav non-fiction is Dare to Lead by Brene Brown because Brene debunked the idea that leadership is a "soft" skill. Leadership is in fact a "hard" skill that requires discipline, reflection and lots of practice. I strive to be an effective, transformational leader every day!

On a much lighter note, I recently read Lessons in Chemistry: A Novel by Bonnie Garmus. A fun and easy read. Not to mention the protagonist is a strong woman:)
An ideal relationship is predicated on respect, honesty and the willingness to listen and negotiate.
There are a number of challenges our state will face: (a) Recruiting and retaining public school teachers (Indiana is currently 37th in the nation for lowest teacher salary), (b) Climate change and the environment (Indiana used to have some of the strongest environment protection laws; this is not true anymore. 85% of Indiana's wetlands have disappeared and will contribute to the problems we will have with climate change), (c) Unaffordable health care (Indiana already pays more for healthcare than our neighboring states; for example, in IN, emergency room visits are 17% more than KY, OH, MI), (d) Brain drain; too many young people leave Indiana, (e) Workforce development: as green energy makes gains, how do we (re) train our workforce to adapt to the changes that are coming, and (f) children falling behind in their education: Indiana should have universal pre-K. The research is unequivocal. It works!
Absolutely! Building relationships is fundamental to understanding each other. We need to understand each other (and their constituents) to build good policy that helps and supports Hoosiers.
