Helen E. Freedman is a former justice of the New York Supreme Court, Appellate Division, First Department. She retired on October 31, 2014.[1]

She was appointed to the court by former Governor David Paterson in July 2008.[2] Freedman was elected to the Supreme Court of the State of New York, First Judicial District in 1988 and was retained by voters in 2002.[3][4]

Education

Freedman received her undergraduate degree from Smith College in 1963 and her J.D. from the New York University School of Law in 1967.[2]

Career

Freedman became a civil court judge in 1979. She also served as acting supreme court justice from 1984 until her election to the Supreme Court of the State of New York, First Judicial District in 1988. She served on the Appellate Term of this court from 1995 to 1999 and was appointed to the Appellate Division in 2008.[2]
