Minnesota: Judge Gary Larson will retire from the Minnesota Fourth Judicial District (Hennepin County) in early June of 2011. He was first appointed to this court by Gov. Perpich in 1985 and has earned a reputation as a caring judge. Regarding his work, he explained, "I like people. I like working with people, and I believe in redemption." U.S. District Judge Ann Montgomery, a friend of Larson, stated, "He has an intense level of caring not just about his own cases, but the court as an institution." Larson, a recovering alcoholic for 22 years, plans to continue to serve as needed on the DWI court, explaining that "It changes peoples lives...And who doesn't like being in a court that works?" There will be a public celebration for him on June 3rd at the Hennepin County Government Center and another on June 8th at Atlas Grill across from the government center.[1]
