Hello my name is Henrietta Ivey Write-In Candidate for the Board of Police Commissioners District 1. I'm a long time Detroiter, I am Homecare Advocate, and human rights, worker rights activist and current Precinct Delegate. My work as a Advocate/Activist expands over 10 years of community work and outreach, policies, bylaws and committee work on behalf of caregivers, labor workers, and childcare workers.
Throughout my tenure as a Home Care professional, I have had the pleasure of meeting numerous individuals across the country who support the vital work that Home Care workers provide. As a current Home Care provider, I derive immense satisfaction from supporting caregivers in their daily endeavors, ensuring the well-being and safety of those in their care.
This sense of purpose drives my decision to run for the Board of Police Commissioners in District 1, as I am committed to implementing policies that foster a secure, happy, and safe community, while also recognizing and commending the exemplary work of law enforcement officers.
I urge you to cast your vote for me on November 4, by writing my name on your ballot, shading in the oval, and submitting it. If you are an absentee voter, please ensure that you write my name on your absentee ballot, complete the shading, and return it.
I eagerly anticipate the opportunity to serve as your Police Commissioner, collaborating with you to implement innovative ideas that promote the growth and prosperity of District 1.
Police Accountability, I feel that having anti-discrimination training will help police officers understand the community that they work in particularly in black and brown communities where discrimination is at a higher percentage for this demographic.
Public Safety, this is very important to me because when policing citizen in lower income neighborhoods its unsely do to mental health issues or substance abuse and if that is not detected during the time of engagement that can become a problem and that needs to address to make sure police officers are properly trained -to understand when someone is experiencing these kinds of issues.
Transparency, I feel that this is the most trait to have working for the community that you say you were going to on behalf of the community, and stand firm on making sure that you actually serve and protect the citizens.
Oversight I fell that is where I can do the best work on behalf of the community when it comes to setting policies, what's going on with the budget, citizens complains, facial recognition, and reviewing police practices.
The qualities I possess that I feel would make me successful in this role is having great integrity and truthfulness and my leadership skills and good listening skills.
Police oversight, holding public meetings, investigating civilian complaints, and police policies.

Hello! And I Henrietta Ivey I am the current Precinct Delegate/Advocate/ Organizer and the Write-In candidate for Board of Police Commissioners of district 1. I have lived in O’Hair Park since 2018 and became one of the block captains in 2019 helping to strengthen the O’Hair Park Community, with engagement, transparency and accountability.!I have enjoyed living in this amazing tight-knit community. My mission now is to become the voice of the community, to become the advocate for people living in District 1 with concerns of how we can engage our current police officers and board making it/ keeping it safe, where we live and holding those officers accountable to provide services to the people living in District 1. My community work includes being the Homecare advocate for caregivers workers in the city of Detroit and across the state of Michigan. I was the speaker in 2016 on the Hillary campaign chosen personally by the Hillary camp to speak about wages, caregiving and respect for workers in the care force. I have been featured in publications on my advocacies and work on behalf of caregivers and I am currently the elected precinct delegate 286 in District 1 and I am also currently a small business owner providing services and care to people who need qualified caregivers. My work stretches across many avenues as a workers rights advocate, and now I am ready to serve District 1 as the new Board of Police Commissioners.
Truthfulness. I want to be remembered as the person who always told the truth, who always brought the facts to the community, the person who stands on making sure what is said is done and done in a timely way. I believe that the constituent of District 1 deserves that.
Integrity. When you are serving the community you have to have integrity, honesty and have the courage to do the right thing all the time. Never wavering from what you told your constituents because they will remember! I want them to remember me for what I said I was going to and got it done.
Accountability. I believe in being responsible for what I said and not making excuses why it didn’t get done. I want District 1 residents to know I will accept my responsibility to the work for them, holding the Officers who took an oath to protect and serve and hold any one of them who chooses not to accountable for their actions.
Human rights. The right to a safe environment, the right to live in peace and not fear our sworn in officers but to feel safe in their presence. I want o bridge the community and its police force together in District 1, and maintain the relationship of trust and respect we have build already with our Officers .
I have a number of books and films I find interesting to the work I do in politics, so what I’ll say is I believe in the pursuit of truth, happiness and justice and creating a world that we all can enjoy.
If I could be a fictional character, it would be the Black Panther because the strength and power and the way that this character used their power that no one knew they had and the way that they were able to come in and just take out the bad guys, I would love to be able to have that kind of power that people didn’t even see it coming, but they know when it comes that it was coming for the good and betterment of the people.
Yes. The community have a right to attend meetings and have their voices heard and to stand up against any injustice bought against them without fear of retaliation or punishment.
I do believe a person running for this position should know how government works and knowing how polices work to strengthen the community they want to serve.
I believe knowledge of law-enforcement policies is a must have because you want to be able to navigate answering questions for citizens when it comes to complaints and how these complaints are handled according to law-enforcement policies and procedures, and having that knowledge will definitely help you be able to have a decent conversation and a well worthy conversation with citizens in the district you’re committed to serving.
The board of police commissioners have the the power to hold officers accountable for misconduct, it is very important that we utilize the power that we have in making sure that our communities are safe and the officers are not out the streets terrorizing the community because they feel they can, this board must utilize our procedures and policies to keep the communities safe from possible corruption, and officers who are not doing what they were sworn in to do and that is to protect and serve the people.
I believe in it and and I plan on having open discussion with the people so that they can be involved with what is happening in this District with the financial/ new policies being implemented.
