Henry "Hank" Gooday Jr. is the Division 2 judge on the Pinal County Superior Court in Arizona. He was initially appointed by Gov. Jan Brewer (R) on October 10, 2013, to replace Judge Boyd T. Johnson. Gooday won retention in the general election on November 8, 2016. His current term ended on January 4, 2021.[1]

Biography

Gooday received a B.A. in liberal arts and an M.H.S. in health sciences and the law from Governors State University in 1986 and 1987. He then earned his J.D. from Nova Southeastern University School of Law in 1999. He held the following roles in his legal career before being appoint superior court judge:[1]

  • 2010–2013: Court Commissioner, Pinal County Superior Court
  • 2006–2013: Various positions, Pinal County Superior Court (Judge Pro Tempore, Justice of the Peace Pro Tempore and Initial Appearance Special Master)
  • 2000–2010: Adjunct professor, Western International University
  • 2005–2007: Court Solicitor, Gila River Indian Community Court
  • 2002–2005: Office of the Legal Defender
  • 2001–2002: Maricopa County Attorney’s Office
  • 1999–2001: Maricopa County Public Defender's Office
  • 1988–1996: Founder/operator, S.E.C./Keter Consultants (environmental consulting firm)

Awards and associations

  • 2007: "Total Board Boardsmanship Award," Arizona School Board Association
  • 2006–2007: Member, Florence Unified School District Board (Vice President, 2006)[1]

Arizona held elections for 80 superior court judgeships on November 8, 2016. Sixty-three of those seats were up for retention election. Three counties—Maricopa, Pima, and Pinal—use retention elections for their superior courts.[2]
