Herbert F. DeSimone, Jr. is a former commissioner of the Rhode Island Public Utilities Commission. He was first appointed to a six-year term in June 2013 by Governor Lincoln Chafee. He left the commission in 2017.[1]

The Providence Journal reported on September 24, 2017 that DeSimone had been hired by the Rhode Island Ethics Commission to serve as independent legal counsel.[2]

DeSimone is a lawyer by training and began practicing law in 1981. In 1987, he became a partner at DeSimone & Leach and continued in that position until he was appointed to the Public Utilities Commission.[1] Over his legal career, DeSimone appeared in every state court in Rhode Island and the U.S. District Court. He has also argued appeals before the Rhode Island Supreme Court and the U.S. Court of Appeals.[1]

In addition to his work in the private sector, DeSimone also served as the assistant city solicitor in Providence, Rhode Island from 1981 to 1984 and as assistant solicitor in Jamestown, Rhode Island from 2001 to 2003.[1]

Political career

Public Utilities Commission (2013-2017)

DeSimone was appointed to a six-year term on the commission in June 2013 by Governor Lincoln Chafee.[1] DeSimone left office in 2017. According to the website of the Rhode Island Public Utilities Commission, his replacement, Abigail Anthony, was appointed to the commission in June 2017.[3]
