Herlinda Garcia was a 2015 nonpartisan candidate for District I of the Houston City Council in Texas. Herlinda Garcia lost the general election on November 3, 2015.
Biography
Garcia's professional experience includes serving as the principal of J. P. Henderson Elementary for 30 years. She was a member of the Houston Community College Board of Trustees from 1989 to 2003, serving as chairwoman in 1996. She was awarded with the board's Chairman’s Legacy Award, District III in 2010. She has also received the following awards:
- Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Triunfando Award
- Ford Dealership Award
- Certificate of Congress and Recognition by Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee
- 2003: YWCA Outstanding Women of Achievement Award for Education[1]
