Campaign themes
2014
Bauer's campaign website highlighted the following issues:[2]
Education & Common Core Standards
- Excerpt: "We have already surrendered entirely too much control of our schools to state and federal authorities. No Washington bureaucrat is the best authority of what will help Pennsylvania's students (or New York's or Oklahoma's, for that matter) succeed. And what does help them succeed today may not work five or ten years from now. Local control is essential to reform. Our own families and communities have the greatest impact on our children's chances of future success."
The Economy
- Excerpt: "I believe economic development is primary. The Marcellus Shale gas boom is a once in a lifetime opportunity to create jobs and wealth throughout Pennsylvania. We need to make sure that the vehicles at the work sites with license plates from Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana transform to Pennsylvania tags in the future--education and training can make this happen."
Maintaining Highways and Bridges
- Excerpt: "The government has enacted a new gasoline tax with no assurance that it will refurbish and maintain the whole state's aging highways; instead, it's possible that it might be funneled toward boondoggle projects in Philadelphia or Pittsburgh. We need to maximize the use of this new funding for our highways and bridges. Good infrastructure attracts new businesses. The job of the legislature is not to spend more money but to spend it more WISELY."
Pro Gun-Owners' Rights
- Excerpt: "I agree with the Supreme Court that the right to bear arms extends to individuals and their right to self-defense. There should be no restrictions on the type or the lawful use of firearms. I also believe the government has no right to compile a national gun-owners' registry, to limit magazine size, or to create "gun-free zones."
Pro Life
- Excerpt: "God loves all children, born and un-born."
