Hewitt L. "Sonny" Conwill is the presiding judge on the Circuit 18 court in Alabama. He served on the court for five years prior to his appointment as presiding judge in February 2011.[1] His term is set to expire in 2018.

Conwill also serves on the Shelby County Judicial Commission. When a vacancy occurs on the Circuit 18 bench, this commission submits a list of its nominees to the Governor of Alabama, and the governor makes the final choice from that list.[2]

Education

Conwill received his B.S. from Howard University and his J.D. from the University of Alabama.[3]

Career

Prior to becoming circuit judge, Conwill was a private practice attorney in Columbiana, Alabama, and was the Assistant District Attorney in Shelby County from 1970-1973.[3]

2012 election

Conwill was re-elected after running unopposed in the general election on November 6, 2012.[4][5]
