Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

My name is Hieu Nguyen, I was born and raised in Vietnam until the age of 9. My family was granted permission to come to America in 1992, we resided in California for 15 years and moved to Colorado ever since. I graduated from University of Denver with double majors in International Business and Accounting. I've worked at Wells Fargo Bank for 10 years in various positions, opened my own restaurant for 3 years, and currently work at Adams County Assessor office for almost 4 years. The toughest job I've experience is being a mom of 2 daughters, currently 3 years old and 1 year old. They are the strictest supervisors ever! They work me around the clock but does not allow me to call in sick. I am very fortunate to be able to live in this wonderful country therefore I want to serve and give what I can to make sure this country stays just as beautiful as the first day I step foot on this land. Also for my daughters to grow up in this amazing country they also get to call HOME.

Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?

• I want to work on creating satellite offices that are closer to population centers and creating online portals, so citizens that don't have the means to travel, can file forms directly on the internet.
• A lack of communication and accountability has led to some people being overloaded with work while others have none to do. I will review the work process within the Assessor's Office to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
• The largest problem with the current assessor's office is their lack of community involvement. I want to keep the public informed of all the important dates and events that would impact the citizens of Adams County, such as when to apply for senior exemptions, or when to apply for appeals so our citizens can keep more of their hard-earned money.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

As a mom, I am very concern with the direction of education is going toward. Education should be about children and academic empowerment. I want children to be provided with solid academic foundation so they can use it as a tool to advance into the world with knowledge and confidence.

What qualities do you possess that you believe would make you a successful officeholder?

I am a firm believer that leadership means to lead by being alongside your team, lead by example, focus on the people and working together toward the same goal. I look forward to empowering my staff to hone in on their strength and use it to the best of their ability. I'm committed to lead with passion, integrity and giving all I have. I am a leader that will stand up for my employees and create an environment where people will look forward to Mondays. Our residents can expect the Assessor's staff to be knowledgeable, helpful, and available when they need us.

What is the first historical event that happened in your lifetime that you remember? How old were you at the time?

It was 9-11. I was in 11th grade in algebra class. My teacher turned on the TV and we watched the event unfolds. I couldn't understand what I was watching and kept thinking it must be a joke the media is playing on us. No way this is real. I was very emotionally stressed for a while thinking about all the people that are left behind to buried their loved ones. My parents had to bury their siblings from the Vietnam War debacle too so 9-11 brought back a lot of unsettled feelings.

What was your very first job? How long did you have it?

WellsFargo Bank for 10years. I've work in these position throughout the ten years: teller, banker, service manger I & II, assistant store manager, collateral analyst, & collateral analyst manager.
