Washington, D.C.: Stephen Higginson, an assistant U.S. attorney from Louisiana, was nominated by President Obama on May 5, 2011 to a judgeship on the United States Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit. If the nomination is confirmed by the U.S. Senate, he would replace Judge Jacques Wiener, who is now serving on senior status. The court serves Texas and Mississippi as well as Higginson's home state of Louisiana.

Regarding the nomination, the President stated, "Both his legal and academic credentials are impressive and his commitment to judicial integrity is unwavering." In addition to his work as an assistant U.S. attorney, Higginson also works as a professor at Loyola University New Orleans College of Law.[1]
