A special election for the position of Missouri State Senate District 8 was called for November 7, 2017. The filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was September 19, 2017.[1]

The seat became vacant on July 31, 2017, after Will Kraus (R) resigned. He was appointed by Gov. Eric Greitens (R) to the Missouri Tax Commission.[2]

State Rep. Mike Cierpiot (R) defeated Hillary Shields (D) and Jacob Turk (independent) in the special election.[3]
