Hi, my name is Hoan Huynh ("Han Huynh"). I came to America with my family as a refugee from Vietnam, and am a proud member of the Argyle community here in Uptown. Starting from a cramped one bedroom apartment with eight family members, I made it all the way to Yale as a first-generation college student and then on to Harvard for my Masters in Policy and Management. A lot of people fought for me to get here and I benefited tremendously from various social programs, and I am running for office to make sure that all of our kids and grandkids have these same opportunities that I had and that all of our families are able to live in a safe and prosperous Illinois.

In my professional life, I've worked at Chicago Beyond leading over 65 million in investments into the Chicago community aimed at building a more equitable city for us all. I've worked extensively with local organizations, community leaders, and local government to address and solve social justice and economic issues affecting Chicago. I've led efforts to reduce gun violence, helped create job opportunities for young people, and supported work to develop trauma-informed policies to ensure that Chicago Public Schools create safer learning environments, and get LGBTQ+ and homeless youth necessary supplies during the pandemic.

I am deeply proud to be the first Vietnamese American on the ballot in Illinois State history and will work tirelessly to build forward for a community that works for all of our families.
  • Everyone one of us in our communities must be safe from crime
  • Housing and healthcare are human rights
  • We must support our small businesses
Protecting a woman's right to choose and building access to culturally sensitive reproductive health care.

LGBTQ+ rights and equal protection of those rights in all communities in our state.

Changing the model of how government works to truly co-govern with community organizations and create an inclusive, diverse government.

Building the green economy with equitable jobs distribution. Accelerating the transition to a sustainable economy.

Creating better and greener ways of moving people and goods around our state.

Finding new ways to get people housed.

Getting robust, equitable funding to our children and schools.

Ensuring that caregivers, especially in our immigrant communities and communities of color, are treated fairly and have meaningful opportunities.

Getting the guns off our streets and using evidence-based measures to prevent violence, especially in addressing the root causes of violence.

Scorecards

See also: State legislative scorecards and State legislative scorecards in Illinois

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.

Click here for an overview of legislative scorecards in all 50 states. To contribute to the list of Illinois scorecards, email suggestions to editor@ballotpedia.org.
