Ballotpedia biographical submission form

The candidate completed Ballotpedia's biographical information submission form:

What is your political philosophy?

I am a dedicated and passionate community organizer who has spent the last 10 years advocating for social, economic, and racial justice, as well as women's rights and human rights. I have spent over a decade working to help remove stigma around the important issues of mental and chemical health. I wish to work on economic development, affordable housing, universal healthcare, and environmental justices.

Is there anything you would like to add?

I have overcame significant barriers in my life and career. I was born in Somalia and left home because of civil war. I immigrated to United States from Somalia more than twenty years ago, and first made 62A my home in 1999. I currently live in Phillips Community with my 14 year old son Mustafa. Access to a good education and a welcoming community were important in my decision to give back, both in my professional life and in my decision to run for office. I believe all people can reach their full potential when we create access to opportunities that empower people to aspire for a better future. If we get it right for our kids, families, elders and all of our diverse communities in 62A, then we will get it right for Minnesota.[3]

Scorecards

See also: State legislative scorecards and State legislative scorecards in Minnesota

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.

Click here for an overview of legislative scorecards in all 50 states.  To contribute to the list of Minnesota scorecards, email suggestions to editor@ballotpedia.org.
