Hollis French, II
Hollis S. French II (b. October 11, 1958) is a former Democratic member of the Alaska State Senate, representing District J from 2013 to 2015. He previously represented District M from 2003 to 2013.
French served as Senate Minority Leader in 2014.
After giving serious consideration to a 2014 bid for the governorship, Hollis announced in October 2013 that he would instead seek the open seat of lieutenant governor.[1][2] He won the ADL primary on August 19 and was set to face Republican nominee Dan Sullivan in the general election. He was forced to drop out of the race, however, after a September 1 vote of the Alaska Democratic Party central committee merged the Democratic ticket with that of independent candidate Bill Walker, pushing both French and Walker's former running mate for lieutenant governor off the ballot.[3]
Biography
French earned his B.A. in English from the University of Alaska in 1990 and his J.D. from Cornell Law School in 1995. His professional experience includes serving as Assistant District Attorney from 1996-2002 and a law clerk from 1995-1996.

Elections
2014
French ran for Lieutenant Governor of Alaska in the 2014 elections. He initially filed a letter of intent to explore a gubernatorial run. French had said the purpose of forming an exploratory committee was to determine whether a campaign for governor would be financially viable.[2] Then, on Oct. 15, 2013, French announced on his Facebook page that he would pursue the office of lieutenant governor instead.[4]
French won the ADL primary on August 19, 2014, but was forced off the Democratic ticket by extenuating circumstances prior to the general election. The general election took place on November 4, 2014.

Noting that his new district "is a little more conservative" than his current one, he said he wanted to "start introducing [himself] to the people in my new district as soon as I can."[8]

Scorecards
A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.
Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
