Carter issued the following statement regarding her bid for office:
| “ | In June, the citizens of District 6 will elect a new City Council Member. After long and deliberate consideration and with the overwhelming support and encouragement from my friends, family and members of our community, I’ve decided to seek the honor of being your next representative on the Fresno City Council.
Why am I running? It’s certainly not to embark on a political career. I’m a successful business owner who isn’t looking for a job as a career politician. It is, however, clear that our community has significant challenges and I believe we can do better. As your next City Council Member, I will bring a fresh and bold perspective to City Hall. As I’ve had the pleasure of talking to numerous business owners, residents and community leaders about our vision for Fresno, one thing has become perfectly clear; Northeast Fresno — and District 6 in particular — is facing rapidly increasing challenges with crime, vagrancy, and traffic congestion that are significantly and unnecessarily impinging upon our quality of life. We can address and overcome these challenges if we choose people over politics, public service over political careers and transparency over secrecy. I have spent my career problem-solving for businesses large and small. My passion for Fresno and my professional skill set are the type needed to tackle challenges we face as a community. I look forward to meeting with you over the next several months as I walk our district. When we meet, I hope that you will share your ideas with me concerning the current state of our district. I look forward to hearing from you, and thank you in advance for your support. [3] |
