Homestead Valley County Service Area parcel tax, Measure A (August 2009)
A Homestead Valley County Service Area parcel tax, Measure A ballot question was on the August 25, 2009 ballot for voters in the Homestead Valley County Service Area in Marin County, where it was approved.[1][2]
Measure A imposed an annual $125-per-parcel tax. There are about 1,100 parcels in Homestead Valley, which means that Measure A generates about $138,000 in taxes a year.[1] The Measure A tax is allowed to increase by 2% a year. 60% of the revenue from Measure A is supposed to be set aside to maintain the Homestead Valley Community Center. The rest goes to the Homestead Valley Land Trust "for wildland fire hazard reduction projects, ongoing vegetation management, trail maintenance and trail improvements to open space areas."[3]
The election was conducted on a mail-in ballot only basis. 1,685 mail ballots were sent to eligible voters. Ballots had to be returned by 8 p.m. on August 25. Ballots that were postmarked on August 25, but did not arrive on August 25, were not counted.
A two-thirds (66.67%) vote was required for approval.
