Colorado: On Friday, October 25, Governor John Hickenlooper appointed William W. Hood to the Colorado Supreme Court. Hood, who has served as a District Court judge in Denver since 2007, will join the state's highest court in January. He will replace retiring Chief Justice Michael Bender.

Hood responded to the appointment during the official announcement at the state Capitol, stating:

It's an enormous undertaking and a huge responsibility, and I look forward to doing all that I can to show that I deserve the vote of confidence the governor has given me...I also look forward to meeting my continuing responsibility to upholding the rule of law and to serve the people of Colorado.[1][2]

Hood will serve for an initial term of two years and then must face a retention election for a full, 10-year term.[1]
