Houman Salem is the son of Iranian immigrants who settled in Chatsworth, CA in 1976. He graduated from CSUN with a degree in History in 1994 and earned his MBA from Pepperdine in 2001. Mr. Salem is an entrepreneur whose career has spanned from the music industry to technology to fashion. Today, Mr. Salem is the founder and CEO of a leading fashion design house based in the San Fernando Valley, where he is committed to promoting and advancing the American Made movement in fashion. As a business leader and executive, Mr. Salem is rightly positioned to provide leadership with a strategic viewpoint for California.
  • To resolve the Homless Crisis that has infested our State over the past 8 years. Specifically, to repeal Prop 47, Prop 57 and AB 109.
  • To protect taxpayers against the threat of any new taxes. Specifically, any changes to Prop 13.
  • To fight for employees and job creators by minimizing government interfearence in their transactions. Specifically, repealing AB 5.
We must not continue to give up our freedoms to the government. Money is an instrument of freedom, and the more of it we give to the government, the less freedom we have as individuals. Less freedom to travel, to invest, to provide for our families, to give to charities, or to provide for ourselves. We can not tax our way out of every problem. This is what lack of leadership looks like.
My family moved to Chatsworth from Iran in 1976 (I was 4 years old at that time). But, in 1979 the Shaw of Iran was ousted and the Islamic revolution ushered in an era of extreme turmoil for the people of Iran. What impacted me the most was the US hostages that were held in Iran for 444 days. I was only 9 years old at that time but the fear of being an Iranian in America in those days haunt me even today. I have always sided with and I have always considered myself to be an American (never an Iranian-American, only American). But my name, my parents accents, and my relatively darker skin could not hide my Iranian roots. Those were frightening times for a 9 year old in a new country.
My very first job was at Wendy's at the age of 15 1/2 (working under a high school work permit). I earned a minimum wage of $3.35 per hour and was in charge of the french fries department. I held this job for one semester and earned my high school class credits for this position. Later that summer, I re-applied and was hired back at my post for the duration of my summer vacation.
Absolutely NOT. Politics is not the domain of politicians, politics is the domain of the people. It is written "We the People" not "We the Politicians".
The State of California has an immediate responsibility to solve the homeless and vagrancy problems that plague our cities. No one in any position of leadership in California has been serious about this issue. They have, in fact ,exacerbated the problem due to failed policies and lack of leadership. The homeless crisis has caused significant disruption to the small business community, has negatively impacted our way of life, and has cause crime to spike despite any date to the contrary. Furthermore, the environmental impact of the homeless crisis is immediate and significant. Our beaches and our beloved Pacific Ocean are at sever risk of environmental decay due to the amount of daily trash and waste that enter the oceans through the LA River.
