Howard Brill
Howard Brill was the chief justice of the Arkansas Supreme Court. He was appointed by Republican Governor Asa Hutchinson on August 25, 2015, to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Chief Justice Jim Hannah. Brill completed Hannah's term, which expired on December 31, 2016. Brill said when appointed that he expected to return to teaching law after he finished the term.[1]
Education
Brill received his undergraduate degree from Duke University in 1965, his J.D. from the University of Florida College of Law in 1970, and his LL.M. from the University of Illinois in 1979.[1]
Career
Before his appointment, Brill had been a law professor at the University of Arkansas since 1975, teaching professional responsibility, remedies, civil procedure and domestic relations, as well as courses on the special topics of constitutional law and baseball and the law. He has also taught at the Universities of Florida, Illinois, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. He also practiced with a small law firm in Rock Island, Ill. Brill has written two books, The Law of Damages in Arkansas and Arkansas Professional and Judicial Ethics.[1]
