Howard Frederic Sachs is a federal judge on senior status on the United States District Court for the Western District of Missouri. He joined the court in 1979 after being nominated by President Jimmy Carter (D). He assumed senior status in October 1992.[1]

Early life and education

Sachs graduated from Williams College with his bachelor's degree in 1947 and later graduated from Harvard Law School with his J.D. degree in 1950.[1]

Military service

Sachs served in the U.S. Navy as an Electrical Technician's Mate-Second Class from 1944 to 1946.[1]

Professional career

Sachs was a law clerk for former federal judge Albert Ridge in the Western District of Missouri from 1950 to 1951. He worked in private practice from 1951 to 1979.[1]

Judicial career

Western District of Missouri

Sachs was nominated by President Jimmy Carter on May 17, 1979, to a new seat created by 92 Stat. 1629. Sachs was confirmed by the Senate on September 25, 1979, and received commission on September 26, 1979. Sachs served as the chief judge of the Western District of Missouri from 1990 to 1992 before later assuming senior status on October 31, 1992.[1]
