I'm Hussein Anani, a lifelong Metro Detroit resident and the president of a growing construction company based right here in Southeast Michigan. I’m running for Mayor of Dearborn Heights because I believe our city deserves bold, transparent leadership that gets results and not politics as usual.

As a business owner, I’ve taken a small family operation and turned it into one of the largest non-union glazing firms in the region by focusing on strategy, accountability, and teamwork. I’ve created jobs, balanced budgets, and led people - skills that are sorely needed in City Hall.

I'm not a career politician, and that’s a strength. I approach problems with logic, not ego. I’ve watched from the outside for too long as our city fell behind on infrastructure, transparency, and long-term planning. I believe the time is long overdue for a mayor who shows up, speaks honestly, and follows through.

I'm running to serve, not to sit. My goal is to empower residents, bring real oversight to city operations, and make government work efficiently for the people. I believe in smart investment, public safety, and making every neighborhood feel heard and supported.
  • Fix what's broken & fund what matters. From underused parks to neglected libraries, our city's needs have been overlooked for too long. I'll prioritize intentional, needs-based investment in infrastructure and services and focus on results that residents can both see and feel.
  • Honest government with accountable leadership. As a small-business owner, I know firsthand how important it is for every member of our team to have a seat at the table. Knowing how to work collaboratively means decisions are made together and not behind closed doors. As mayor, I'll bring full transparency to City Hall by implementing a public transparency portal so that residents can readily access city budgets, expenditures, and department metrics in real time.
  • A community that works for everyone. Every resident in every neighborhood deserves a safe, vibrant place to live. I'll fight blight, buckle down on speeding, support youth and seniors through enhanced public spaces, and work to rebuild trust in our city's future. Together, we can and will build a Dearborn Heights where families want to stay and where our kids can thrive.
I’m passionate about infrastructure, public safety, and government accountability. Our city needs smart, long-term investment in roads, sewers, and technology in lieu of quick fixes. I’m also committed to improving emergency response times and making our neighborhoods safer through better coordination and support for police and fire services. Most importantly, I believe residents deserve transparency and real results from City Hall. I’ll bring private-sector efficiency and a hands-on leadership style to ensure your tax dollars are working for you.
One book that reflects my approach to leadership and public service is Leaders Eat Last by Simon Sinek. It’s not a political book, but it deeply shaped how I view responsibility, teamwork, and decision-making. The core idea is that real leaders put their people first and they take care of those they serve, especially when things get tough. That’s how I’ve led in business, and it’s how I plan to lead in government. I believe in results over rhetoric, logic over ego, and accountability at every level. Public service should never be about status and should always be about showing up, listening, and getting the work done.
An elected official should lead with integrity, accountability, and humility. The job shouldn't be about notoriety or power; it’s about earning trust and solving real problems for real people. Transparency is essential and residents deserve to know the truth, even when it's uncomfortable. Strong decision-making should be guided by facts, not politics, and every choice should reflect what’s best for the community, not just what’s convenient. Most importantly, elected officials should listen first, act decisively, and never forget who they work for: the people.
The core responsibility of a mayor is to ensure that city government works effectively, efficiently, and transparently for its residents. That means managing city services, enforcing ordinances, and overseeing the budget with accountability. A mayor should also set the tone for leadership across departments, respond directly to community needs, and drive long-term planning for infrastructure, safety, and quality of life. Above all, the mayor is responsible for being accessible, proactive, and focused on results instead of politics.
I want to leave a legacy of real change; where residents felt heard, services improved, and the city moved forward because leadership finally put people before politics. I hope to be remembered as someone who brought honesty, action, and accountability back to City Hall, and who made government work better for everyone, not just a few.
My first job was at a local arcade and restaurant called Arcadia, near Ford and Beech Daly. I worked there for just under a year, starting out as general help and quickly picking up a variety of roles. I went from repairing arcade machines to assisting in the kitchen, running laser tag, and managing the ticket counter. It was a crash course in how a business operates and taught me a lot about adaptability, teamwork, and work ethic. More than anything, it helped me learn what I was capable of.
To me, being a mayor means leading by example, showing up, and taking responsibility. It’s about being honest with residents, listening to their concerns, and delivering real results. A mayor should work for the people every day and make sure every part of the city feels heard and supported.
I believe financial transparency and government accountability are non-negotiable. Taxpayers have every right to know how their money is being spent and whether it’s being used effectively. As mayor, I would push for clearer reporting, easier public access to financial data, and more proactive communication from City Hall. We shouldn’t wait for residents to ask; we should be publishing budgets, contracts, and performance metrics on a regular basis. Accountability also means holding departments and leadership to results. If something isn’t working, we need to fix it, not hide it. That’s how you rebuild public trust.
