Huval wins District 46 special election
April 3, 2011
By Tyler Millhouse
Louisiana held a special election Saturday to fill a vacancy in District 46 of the Louisiana House of Representatives. The vacancy was created when then-Representative Fred Mills, Jr. (R) won the January 22 special election to fill State Senate District 22. Two Republicans, Mike "Pete" Huval and Craig Prosper, vied for Mills' vacated seat. Huval ultimately defeated Prosper by a 58% to 42% margin.[1] A runoff had been scheduled on April 30, 2011. However, since only two candidates qualified, no runoff will be necessary.
Partisan impact
Since Huval replaced Fred Mills, Jr., a fellow Republican, his victory will not change the partisan balance of the house.
