Two of the five seats on the Volusia County Schools school board were up for by-district primary election on August 30, 2016. In her bid for re-election, District 2 incumbent Ida Duncan Wright defeated challenger Boysie Smith-Walden. The race for the open District 4 seat featured candidates Carl Persis and Ray Sanchez, with Persis winning the seat.[1][2]
