The Idaho Director of Agriculture is a state executive position in the Idaho state government. The director heads the Idaho Department of Agriculture, which regulates and promotes the state's agriculture industry. The governor appoints the director, who is subject to confirmation by a majority vote of the Idaho Senate. There is hereby created the department of agriculture. The governor shall appoint a director of the department of agriculture, subject to the provisions of section 67-2404, Idaho Code.

State law requires that the director be "a person who is qualified by training, knowledge and demonstrated ability or experience in agricultural pursuits and their management."[1]

Duties

The director is the executive head of the Idaho Department of Agriculture, the state agency tasked with regulating and promoting the state's agricultural produce. State law tasks the director is designating and hiring employees, acquiring and disseminating information regarding "agricultural pursuits," and encouraging and promoting "in every practical manner the interests of agriculture, horticulture ... the livestock industries," etc.[3]
