BOISE, Idaho: A medical marijuana initiative effort currently trying to gather signatures would protect patients who use medical marijuana from criminal prosecution. The initiative's official name is called the Medical Choice Act.
The initiative effort is being organized by the group Compassionate Idaho. Initiative supporters must collect at least 47,432 valid signatures from registered voters by April 30, 2012 in order to place the initiated state statute on the ballot. This equals to 6% of the qualified electors of the state at the time of the last general election.
