Ignacio Torteya III is a federal magistrate judge for the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas. Torteya's service began on January 27, 2014, and his current term expired on January 26, 2022.[1]

Education

Torteya received his B.A. degree in political science from Baylor University in 1992 and J.D. degree from the Baylor University School of Law in 1995.[2]

Career

Torteya began his career in 1995 as an attorney with a San Antonio, Texas, law firm. The following year, he began his clerkship for the late Filemon B. Vela, U.S. District Judge for the Southern District of Texas in Brownsville, Texas. In 1997, he founded The Torteya Law Firm, P.L.L.C. where he worked until his judicial appointment in 2014. He served as an adjunct professor at the University of Texas at Brownsville from 2004 to 2006.[2]

Ignacio Torteya III was appointed to be a federal magistrate judge for the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas. He began service on January 27, 2014, and his current term expired on January 26, 2022.[1]

Brownsville municipal court

Torteya was appointed as an associate municipal judge for the City of Brownsville in 2005, where he served until January 24, 2014.[2]
