Impact of term limits on state legislative elections in 2015
Of the four states to hold state legislative elections in 2015, only Louisiana has a legislature that is subject to term limits.
In Louisiana, there were seven senators and 14 representatives who were ineligible to run for re-election. Thus, a total of 21 state legislators were ineligible to run for re-election in 2015 because of term limits, up from 16 in 2011.
The seven termed-out senators represented 17.9 percent of the 39 seats up for election in the Louisiana State Senate. The 14 termed-out representatives represented 13.3 percent of the 105 seats up for election in the Louisiana House of Representatives.
