Insley to join municipal court after much debate

Montclair, New Jersey: Attorney Richard H. Insley was appointed the next municipal court judge of Montclair, New Jersey (Essex County) on September 21, 2010. A divided Township Council appointed him 4 to 3 for a three-year term. He will replace retired Judge Ernest Booker.
Deputy Mayor Roger Terry and council members Rich Murnick and Cary Africk opposed the appointment, saying that Insley was selected in a way that didn't give other applicants for the position a chance. Terry claimed the appointment was made for "political" reasons.
The majority included Mayor Jerry Fried and council members Nick Lewis, Renée Baskerville and Kathryn Weller-Demming. Lewis claimed that Insley would make a "marvelous judge".
Insley is 64 years old and has practiced law as both a defender and prosecutor for approximately 35 years. He received his law degree from the University of Toledo and has volunteered for the American Civil Liberties Union and liberal advocacy group, BlueWaveNJ. He is currently a litigation specialist with a law firm in Hackensack.[1][2]
