Interim education director appointed in Iowa

DES MOINES, Iowa: Governor Terry Branstad (R) has appointed Duane Magee as a temporary replacement for resigned Iowa Director of Education Jason Glass while they search for someone to officially take over the position.[1] Glass' term was not set to expire until 2015, but he left office early in order to become superintendent of the Eagle County School District in Colorado.[2][3] Magee is the executive director of the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners and will continue to perform the duties of that office during his time as interim director.
Magee has served as the executive director of the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners since July 2012. His education experience prior to entering state employment includes working as an assistant superintendent of human resources and director of human resources for the Waukee Community School District, and as a principal in the Harlan Community School District.
Magee received his M.S.E. in Education Administration from Buena Vista University. He holds both his Ed. S. and B.S.E. in Secondary Business Education from Drake University.[4]
Iowa is one of 37 states that appoint a state superintendent of schools. The position is elected in 13 states.
