Iowa Rep. Jeff Kaufmann will not seek re-election
March 14, 2012
Des Moines, Iowa: Iowa state Representative Jeff Kaufmann (R) has announced he will not run for a fifth term in 2012, but is instead seeking to become Ceder County supervisor.[1]
Kauffmann, who was first elected to the House in 2004, is the current Assistant Republican Leader in that chamber. He said it has been a longtime goal of his to run for supervisor. He noted that one of the reasons he is not seeking another term is because he believes the legislature should not be a career.
In a letter he stated, “Bottom line: I believe and meant my rhetoric over the last eight years when I told you that my tenure is temporary and my next step would be to ‘come home’ and offer my services at the local level.”[1] Iowa Representatives are elected for two years and are not term limited.
Kauffmann's son Bobby is considering a run for the House seat, but hasn't yet made a final decision.
