Iowa legislator appointed state drug czar, retires early
May 31, 2012
Des Moines, Iowa: Five-term state Rep. Steven Lukan (R) resigned his seat effective Wednesday in order to take over as director of the Iowa Office of Drug Control Policy. Gov. Terry Branstad (R) appointed Lukan to the post this week, stating, “Steve Lukan has demonstrated himself as an exceptional leader in the Iowa House, and will be a great director of this important agency.”[1]
Following redistricting, Lukan's district became an easier pick up for Democrats and he announced he would not be seeking re-election.[2]
