Ira Kent Wells was an Article I federal judge for the U.S. District Court for the District of Puerto Rico. He joined the court in 1925 after being nominated by President Calvin Coolidge. At the time of his appointment, Wells served as the United States Attorney for the District of Puerto Rico. In 1929, he was reappointed by Herbert Hoover. Wells served until January 19, 1933. He passed away on April 2, 1934.[1]

Wells earned a Bachelors of Law at the University of Kansas in 1893. [1]

Judge Wells served in the Judge Advocate General Corps of the U.S. Army from 1917-1920. [1]

Personal life

Wells was married to Zula Thompson on April 4, 1895 with whom he had two daughters; Loretta and Dora. [1]

Judicial nominations and appointments

District of Puerto Rico

Wells was nominated to the U.S. District Court for the District of Puerto Rico by Calvin Coolidge on December 8, 1925 to a seat vacated by Arthur Fuller Odlin. In 1929, he was reappointed by Herbert Hoover. Wells served until January 19, 1933. He was succeeded by Robert Archer Cooper[1]
