Ballotpedia biographical submission form

The candidate completed Ballotpedia's biographical information submission form:

What is your political philosophy?

I am an expert on the Healthcare Delivery System (doctors & hospitals) and I can provide a process to begin to create a 21st century HC delivery system in any state. I can provide what has always been missing in how to improve the quality of care and patient safety.

Is there anything you would like to add?

I am seeking activists in any state who might seek to become sufficiently organized as Healthcare Warriors in order to begin to modernize their state's HC delivery system and I will provide them with sufficient information for them to rapidly become effective in creating positive change where they live.[2]

Candidate Connection

Ira Williams participated in Ballotpedia's candidate survey on May 29, 2018. The survey questions appear in bold, and Ira Williams's responses follow below.[3]

What would be your top three priorities, if elected?

1. Seek to establish a Standing Committee in both the Senate and House on Healthcare

2. Seek activists who might become sufficiently organized to become Healthcare Warriors with the goal to modernize the current healthcare delivery system. 3. Seek a Legislative Ethics regulatory mechanism to prevent future legislative misconduct.[4][2]

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about? Why?

I know why the current healthcare delivery system (doctors & hospitals) is broken, and has always been broken and I know how to begin a logical and doable process to begin to create a 21st century HC delivery system that could be the role model for other states.Cite error: Invalid <ref> tag; invalid names, e.g. too many[2]

Ballotpedia also asked the candidate a series of optional questions. Ira Williams answered the following:

Who do you look up to? Whose example would you like to follow and why?

I am the only person currently focused on each state's responsibility to create and maintain an effective healthcare delivery system and I can provide evidence that I have been challenging quality of care and patient safety experts at both the federal and state levels here in South Carolina and in Washington DC for the past several years and my efforts have been ignored, but the facts support my positions.[2]
Is there a book, essay, film, or something else that best describes your political philosophy?
I have written 4 books on Healthcare and my latest book Healthcare Warriors, Why and How to Become One was recently released on Amazon and other Ebook sources and the web site is www.healthcarewarriors.org. My 2nd book Misdiagnosed, Why Current Healthcare Change is Malpractice 2010 was the first book to focus on each state's responsibility to create and maintain an effective healthcare delivery system.[2]
What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?
To serve the people and the best interest of the people in a professional and ethical manner and to seek to provide leadership in all efforts toward building for the future.[2]
What qualities do you possess that would make you a successful officeholder?
I have been successful in three prior professions; USAF retired major/senior navigator and former squadron commander, board certified oral & maxillofacial surgeon and anesthesiologist, and author of 4 books on healthcare and surgical malpractice consultant and expert witness[2]
What do you believe are the core responsibilities for someone elected to this office?
To fully understand the following; Accountability is a by-product of Authority or sufficient delegated authority to be effective, but Authority and sufficient delegated authority can only exist in a clearly defined organizational structure. Those are the vital missing ingredients why the current Healthcare Delivery System has always been broken. People consistently demand ""accountability"" while lacking the ability to identify the source of authority necessary for such.[2]
What legacy would you like to leave?
To see every state begin to recognize its responsibility to create and maintain an effective Healthcare Delivery System and begin a process to create same. It will be impossible to ever improve the current healthcare system unless and until each state's responsibility is recognized and included in those efforts.T[2]
What happened on your most awkward date?
The fact that I have long been socially clueless about so many things regarding personal relationships was exposed.[2]
What is your favorite holiday? Why?
Easter: He is risen![2]
What is your favorite book? Why?
There are so many, including mine, but since I am limited to one.

Madam Curie, one of the greatest geniuses to ever walk the earth, and one of the few who dedicated all of her efforts for the benefit and betterment of mankind.[2]

If you could be any fictional character, who would you be?
I am too much of a realist to answer this question. I rarely read fiction for two reasons; too much of the ""good"" fiction involves principle characters that I would have no desire to meet, and also because I have sufficient fantasies of my own.[2]
What is your favorite thing in your home or apartment? Why?
My computer because it allows me to freely express my thoughts and also allows me to selectively share those thoughts I consider worthy of sharing.[2]
What is something that has been a struggle in your life?
Personal one-on-one relationships as demonstrated by my being married and divorced twice and the only positive aspect of those two failures was that there was no third party involved. We each failed each other.[2]
Do you believe it’s beneficial to build relationships with other legislators? Please explain your answer.
Only a fool would say No, but I do have reservations regarding this issue. Conventional wisdom says that our form of Democracy functions best through compromise, but I believe too many of our long-standing national problems are due to having effective solutions compromised into ineffective results.[2]
What process do you favor for redistricting?
Because of judicial meddling and the political need to create ""safe districts"" for various reasoning I am uncertain that equitable redistricting can ever be accomplished, but I would like to participate in trying.[2]
If you are not a current legislator, are there certain committees that you would want to be a part of?
Healthcare particularly pertaining to the delivery system (doctors & hospitals) and Ethics. As a strong proponent of medical peer review and as an expert on how the medical profession has always failed the nation in their failure to provide the public with effective self-regulation of their members I fully appreciate the need for ethical conduct and how to obtain such.[2]
If you are not currently a member of your party’s leadership in the legislature, would you be interested in joining the leadership? If so, in what role?
I fear I am too much a contrarian to ever become part of the legislative leadership. I seek challenge and be challenged and my efforts to improve the quality of care and patient safety have clearly demonstrated that most ""experts"" do not seek to be challenged.[2]
Is there a particular legislator, past or present, whom you want to model yourself after?
Unfortunately I can not identify even one legislator in Congress or at state level who has demonstrated an ability to champion meaningful change in the current Healthcare Delivery System.[2]
Are you interested in running for a different political office in the future?
My current age will not permit such thoughts.[2]
Both sitting legislators and candidates for office hear many personal stories from the residents of their district. Is there a story that you’ve heard that you found particularly touching, memorable, or impactful?
Some experts are saying that medical errors are the 3rd leading cause of deaths behind heart disease and cancer, and every new estimate of needless hospital deaths has been greater than all previous estimates for the past 28 years, plus many books have been written about negligent medical care without meaningful accountability. My experience acting as the second surgeon in multiple cases of gross negligent care provides sufficient motivation.[2]
