Irene Caudillo

Irene Caudillo is the former at-large representative on the Kansas City Kansas Public Schools school board in Kansas. Caudillo was initially appointed to the position in 2015. Caudillo lost a re-election campaign in the at-large general election on November 7, 2017.
Caudillo ran for a seat before she was appointed to the board. She was defeated in the general election on April 7, 2015. She was chosen for the vacancy appointment over six other applicants.
Biography
Caudillo earned her B.S. from the University of Missouri-Columbia and her M.P.A. from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. She went on to create nonprofit organizations that provide children and youth programs, such as El Centro and Wyandotte Mental Health Association.[1]
Caudillo became the minority health outreach director of the Kansas City Missouri Health Department in 1993. She became the executive director for Youth Opportunities Unlimited, Inc., in 1997. In 2004, she became the director of family strengthening at Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas. She later became the director of clinic operations for Swope Health Services. Caudillo was appointed president and CEO of El Centro in December 2013.[1]

2017
Five of the seven seats on the Kansas City Kansas Public Schools Board of Education in Kansas were up for at-large general election on November 7, 2017. Three of the seats were up for regular election to four-year terms, and two of the seats were up for special election to two-year terms due to appointments on the board. In the election for the three four-year terms, incumbent Irene Caudillo lost her seat as Maxine Drew, Wanda Brownlee Paige, and Stacy Yeager won election. Challengers Joseph Straws III and Maria Ysaac also lost. In the special election, appointed incumbent Janey Humphries and newcomer Harold Brown won two-year terms, defeating incumbent Rick Behrens and challengers Harold Brown and Korri Hall-Thompson.[2][3][4]

2015
Four seats on the Kansas City Board of Education were up for election on April 7, 2015. At-large incumbents George Breidenthal, Brenda Jones, Gloria Willis, and Christal Watson's seats were up for election. Watson was the only incumbent not to file to run for re-election. The three incumbents seeking to retain their seats faced the following five challengers: Irene Caudillo, Korri Hall-Thompson, Janey Humphries, Valdenia Winn, and Maria Ysaac. Breidenthal, Jones, and Willis retained their seats, and Winn won her first term on the board as the fourth-highest vote recipient in the election.[6][7]
While Caudillo was defeated in the election, she was later appointed to the board following the resignation of board member Victoria Meyer. Caudillo was appointed to the remaining two years of Meyer's unexpired term.
