Irv Maze was a judge for Division 1 of the Kentucky Court of Appeals 4th Appellate District. He assumed office on April 27, 2012. He left office on January 1, 2023.

Maze was appointed to the court by Democratic Governor Steve Beshear on April 27, 2012, and was elected in November 2012.[1] In 2014 he ran unopposed and was elected to a full eight-year term.[2][3] 

Maze did not file to run for re-election in 2022.

Education

Maze earned his bachelor's degree in political science from Indiana University in 1972 and his J.D. from the University of Louisville Louis D. Brandeis School of Law in 1975.[4]

Career

Before his appointment to the Kentucky Court of Appeals in 2012, Maze served as a commissioner on Jefferson County Fiscal Court and as Jefferson County attorney from 1999 to 2008.[1] He also served as an assistant Jefferson County attorney from 1979 to 1985. Maze maintained a private law practice for 32 years until his 2008 judicial appointment.[4] In 2008, Democratic Governor Steve Beshear appointed Maze to fill a vacancy on the Circuit Court left by the unexpected death of Judge Kathleen Voor Montano.[5]

Maze ran for re-election to the Kentucky Court of Appeals.
General: He was unopposed in the general election on November 4, 2014. [6] 

2012

Maze ran for election to the 4th district, 1st division of the Kentucky Court of Appeals.[7] Maze and Thirtieth Circuit Court Chief Judge Jim Shake were the top vote earners in the primary election on May 22, 2012, defeating area attorney Ruth Ann Cox Pence.[2] Maze and Shake faced off in the general election on November 6th. Maze won the race with 50.79 percent of the vote.[3]
