Irving Independent School District Elections

Three of the seven seats on the Irving Independent School District school board were up for by-district general election on May 7, 2016. District 5 incumbent Lee Mosty filed for re-election and faced challenger Adrian Jenkins. District 6 incumbent Randy Necessary was the sole candidate to file in the election for that seat as was District 7 incumbent Randy Randle. There was no primary.[1] The races in District 6 and 7 were canceled due to lack of opposition. Necessary and Randle were automatically re-elected. Jenkins defeated incumbent Mosty and won the District 5 position.[2]

Voter and candidate information

The Irving ISD Board of Trustees is composed of seven members who are elected by district to three-year terms in specifically numbered seats. Candidates file to run for a specific seat, but all voters in the school district are eligible to vote for every seat up for election. The seats in Districts 5, 6 and 7 were scheduled for general election on May 7, 2016. There was no primary election.[3]

Candidates running for the school board had to be a United States citizen, a resident of Texas for at least 12 months, and a resident of the district for at least six months. Candidates also had to be 18 years of age or older and registered to vote.[3]
