Isabel Apkarian is a judge of the Superior Court of Orange County in California. Apkarian assumed office in 2021. Apkarian's current term ends on January 8, 2029.
Apkarian won re-election for judge of the Superior Court of Orange County in California outright in the primary on June 7, 2022, after the primary and general election were canceled.
Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) appointed Apkarian to the court on March 25, 2021, to replace Franz E. Miller.[1]
Although California Superior Court judges are elected in nonpartisan elections, a press release from Gov. Newsom's office announcing Apkarian's appointment on March 25, 2021, identified her as a Democrat.[1]
Biography
Apkarian received her J.D. from Whittier Law School. From 1998 to 1999, she was a Budget Management Research Analyst in the Orange County Executive’s Office. She then served as Senior Deputy Public Defender at the Orange County Public Defender’s Office from 2003 to 2020. From 2021 up until her appointment, she served as a Commissioner at the Orange County Superior Court.[1]
