Israel Varela was an at-large member of the Perth Amboy Public Schools school board in New Jersey. He first won election to the board in 2010. Varela won re-election on November 5, 2013, against eight other candidates for three available seats. Varela lost his second bid for re-election in the general election on November 8, 2016.
Biography
Varela is the owner of Unitech Autobody in Perth Amboy.[1] He is a board member of the Business Improvement District. Varela has been involved in the community as a karate instructor as well as a T-ball coach.[2]

Three of the nine seats on the Perth Amboy Public Schools school board were up for at-large general election on November 8, 2016. Randy Convery, Junior Iglesia, and Tashi Vazquez won election to the three seats on the board by defeating incumbents Samuel Lebreault, Israel Varela, and Anthony Bermudez, as well as challengers Ruben Cruz and Hattie Harrell.[3]
