JD Wooten participated in Ballotpedia's candidate survey on April 10, 2018. The survey questions appear in bold, and JD Wooten's responses follow below.[1]
What would be your top three priorities, if elected?
“ | 1) Equality for all citizens, regardless of race, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, identity, or any basis of discrimination. 2) Increased funding into our public schools to ensure a stellar education for all children of North Carolina. |
” |
What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about? Why?
“ | I am most passionate about making sure that the laws of North Carolina do not discriminate on the basis of any immutable trait. We have made great progress in the last several decades towards treating everyone with dignity and respect, but much work remains to be done. Furthermore, all voices in North Carolina deserve equal weight, so we must end the practices of gerrymandering that dilute certain voices. The voters should choose their representatives; representatives should not choose their voters.Cite error: Invalid <ref> tag; invalid names, e.g. too many[3]

Ballotpedia also asked the candidate a series of optional questions. JD Wooten answered the following:
What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?
“ | Integrity is the most important quality of any person placed in the public trust, closely followed by a commitment to service before self.[3] | ” |
“ | I hope to leave North Carolina a better state for the next generation, just as those before me have done.[3] | ” |
“ | The Gulf War in Iraq in 1990. I was 5 years old, and my father was an active duty officer of the U.S. Air Force. Although I did not understand it at the time, I vividly remember my parents trying to explain why my father would be away from home for a while.[3] | ” |
“ | My first employer was the U.S. Air Force. I served on active duty from 2003 - 2012, and as a reservist in various capacities to the present.[3] | ” |
“ | My favorite holiday is Thanksgiving because it is a time when my extended family gathers to celebrate our gratitude for all that the we have and share together.[3] | ” |
“ | I believe that it's beneficial, although certainly not required, for any elected representative to have prior experience in government.[3] | ” |
“ | Redistricting should be accomplished primarily by an independent group that can operate free of the pressures of re-election.[3] | ” |
